The group was first established in 2014 after a consultation event to develop a sustainable food charter for Lancashire. We are a group of 20 people from a range of organisations whose aim is to use our skills and passion to ensure that no one in the city goes hungry.
We are currently running a Crowdfunding page to set up a Sustainable Food Hub and pay-as-you-feel Cafe that uses ingredients that would otherwise go to landfill
Last year we started a food waste campaign which kicked off in August with Lancashire's first ever 'Disco Soup' event - with dedicated volunteer chefs feeding over 400 people with surplus food donated from supermarkets and local farmers.
We then held the incredibly successful Pumpkin Fest on Preston Market in November after being contacted by a farmer who was left with a field full of unwanted pumpkins from Halloween. This event again experienced an overwhelming level of support, including from volunteer cooks and people attending the event, feeding another 400 people.
We have adopted the Sustainable Food Lancashire charter and are in the process of agreeing our Terms of Reference. We are also developing a business plan for the Sustainable Food Hub.
