Erika Meshkat from the City of Cleveland and Oliver Kroner from the City of Cincinnati will discuss how Cleveland and Cincinnati have incorporated food into their Climate Action Plans and the metrics and indicators used.

Speaker Bios

Oliver Kroner
City of Cincinnati, Office of Environment & Sustainability

Oliver Kroner is the Sustainability Coordinator for the City of Cincinnati, where he works with city government and community members to identify and implement strategies to prepare the City for the future. He is responsible for advancing and tracking the sustainability and resiliency recommendations of the Green Cincinnati Plan, including greenhouse gas modeling. Prior to this role, he worked as an Environmental Scientist with the University of Cincinnati’s Risk Science Center, modeling the human health impacts of chemicals in the environment. He serves on the boards of the Green Partnership for Greater Cincinnati, and the Mill Creek Alliance. Previous board roles have included Northside Community Council (President), Fuel Cincinnati, and PAR Projects. He is a graduate of Miami University and Northeastern University, and a proud AmeriCorps alum.

Erika Meschkat
City of Cleveland, Mayor's Office of Sustainability

Erika Meschkat is the current Sustainability Manager for the City of Cleveland, Mayor’s Office of Sustainability. Erika lead the 2018 update to the Cleveland Climate Action Plan with a committee of over 90 stakeholders, using an application of a racial equity tool and is developing a cross-department strategy to advance healthy food access for residents. Before joining the City of Cleveland, Erika worked as Program Coordinator of Local Food Systems and Community Development for The Ohio State University Extension, in Cleveland and Columbus. In Columbus, Erika formed partnerships for upstream interventions to address infant mortality through fresh food access while supporting local and statewide efforts to scale food assistance incentive programs at farmers’ markets. In Cleveland, Erika co-lead the Cleveland-Cuyahoga County Food Policy Coalition, working to connect low-income families to healthy, local food by developing, managing, and growing the Produce Perks program at farmers’ markets. Erika graduated from Baldwin-Wallace University with a BA in Sustainability and received her MBA from The Ohio State University in Social and Sustainable Enterprises. Erika also has served as a social enterprise consultant and has worked with organizations to assess the feasibility of enterprises that provide healthy, convenient and affordable meals to children and families, and employment opportunities in construction for homeless youth.
