Get ready for Sourdough September

Sourdough September is when the Real Bread Campaign goes on a mission to help everyone discover that: life’s sweeter with sourdough!

The Campaign is encouraging Real Bread bakers everywhere to organise their own local events and activities from 1-30 September, to help share sourdough secrets and demystify the delicious delights of the oldest way of raising a loaf.

Across thirty days of sharing food, facts and fun, Real Bread bakeries, baking schools, mills and food festivals around the UK and beyond will be running sourdough classes, tastings, feasts and more to help everyone experience and enjoy the power of sour.

Sourdough is one of the main themes being chewed over on 12 September during Real Bread: The Uprising at SOAS, University of London

Bakers can draw inspiration from previous Sourdough September shenanigans, including official Campaign ambassadors: Duncan Glendinning (Thoughtful Bread Company) cranking up a (brand new, cleaned) cement mixer to churn out a shedload of starter to give away; Aidan Chapman (Bread Ahead, River Cottage) ditching commercial yeast at his bakery to become a sourdough purist for the whole month; Tom Herbert (Hobbs House Bakery) on a quest to find the #KingOfTheSourdough; and Andrew Whitley (Bread Matters) establishing The Fungal Network community of people with whom he has shared his starter culture.
