Planning for Health and Well-being in Cardiff

06 December 2017

Cardiff Council has approved a ‘Planning for Health and Well-being Supplementary Planning Guidance’ (Nov 2017) to provide guidance to developers on public health and access to health care services issues. It was developed between the city planners of Cardiff Council and the Cardiff & Vale Public Health Team, both organisations co-host Food Cardiff.

The planning guidance's section on 'Food Environment' includes access to food growing spaces, the provision of retail units selling fruit and vegetables and the restriction of the positioning of hot food takeaways.

Developers will be required to take the planning guidance into consideration when submitting a development proposal. The aim is to align urban planning with the objectives set out in the Well-being for Future Generations Act 2015.
